The Night Way Home – Walkthrough

Opening – Settings

The settings can be changed with the ESC key after the opening, when the main character is controllable.

I recommend setting the texture quality to 100%, VSYNC to match the monitor, shadow quality to soft, and VHS filter to off, which may slightly reduce the scare effect that the game creator intended, but makes the screen easier to see. If the game is slow, you can lighten it up by setting the shadow quality to None or Hard. Also, this manufacturer’s games tend to be too dark in general, so you may want to increase the brightness a bit. You can also use the FPS view in the settings.

Exit the subway

Click in front of the escalator, enter the subway and select Yes.

Go forward and up the stairs, and when you exit, turn right and then right again to find a pay phone. You can make a save here.

©Chilla’s Art

Go to the street across from the pay phone. There is a restroom in the back, so enter the women’s restroom.

©Chilla’s Art

Then a crying girl appears.

©Chilla’s Art

Note! As will always be the case in the future, there is a bug that if an evil spirit gets into a wall or something while in a panic state, no matter how far you move away from it, the panic state will not go away. Interacting is not possible in a panic state, so the worst you can do is restart the game.

Also, every time the scene changes (or you die), some of the screen settings such as VHS and FPS viewpoints will be reset to default, so if this bothers you, you will need to set them again.

Get the Flashlight.

F key for flashlight, TAB for inventory, mouse scroll for item switching.

The red anxiety meter at the top of the screen rises when you are in the dark, and decreases when you are in the light. When the meter reaches its limit, you will enter a state of panic and the enemy will notice you. During panic, you cannot interact. If you are far enough away from the enemy, the panic will dissipate.

Exit the restroom and turn right to proceed and save at the pay phone.

Proceed from the side of the pay phone and then turn right to find a locker. A message on a dirty piece of paper there says, “Don’t forget to get the security key for the locker”. It is in the locker on the west side.

©Chilla’s Art

Turn around and follow the road straight ahead, and you’ll see the words “*In red* 389-1270-908” in a Newspaper between the lockers you see.

©Chilla’s Art

As you proceed, you will come back to the restroom, and you can check the pay phone again to call the number you just dialed.

©Chilla’s Art

One of the lockers with the number from earlier will open, so turn around and go back the way you came and get the “Security Room Key”.

©Chilla’s Art

From the locker, follow the path to the left to find the security room. Use the key from your inventory.

©Chilla’s Art

Check the control panel in the room and open the exit shutter.

©Chilla’s Art

Go out of the security room to the left and follow the road straight ahead until you see lockers, then turn right. Follow the road and you will see a green light leaking on your right, go to it and go to the subway exit.

Go to the bicycle parking

Follow the path to a pay phone.

©Chilla’s Art

Go straight out to the parking lot, turn right, and you will see a green door ahead of you on the left. From there, go down the stairs and out the door.

When you exit, go to the left and you will see a green door, enter through it, go down the stairs to the bottom, and examine the object at the back.

©Chilla’s Art

When you go up the stairs and go out the door one floor above, go straight, go around to the right (because the right side is blocked by cars), and then go down through the curve from there.

©Chilla’s Art

Follow the road straight down and you will see a downhill on your left.

Follow the road and you will see a bicycle parking lot.

There is a pay phone, so save your game.

Examine the pink bicycle in the center, wait a moment, and then examine the shutter on the left.

Find 400 yen and use the bus

Straight ahead is Ōnusa, a stick with a lot of paper on the end, a tool used in Shintoism, etc. Use the Q key to use it. If you point it at an evil spirit, it will flee at great speed, but the player will be slowed down and unable to dash while using it.

©Chilla’s Art

Go back and there is a pay phone on your left.

You will collect 400 yen. I made a simple map, so feel free to refer to it. The starting point is the “大幣(Onusa)” in the lower left corner. The “?” mark is where the girl’s memories are. The “100” mark is a 100-yen coin.

Note: A case has been identified where the location of the hundred yen coin changes. If you can’t find it, you can find it in the other red circles.

From where Onusa was, take the road on the left, go to the first crossroad on the left, and when you see a traffic light, take the side road on the left to find 100 yen (the yellow wall of the building is a landmark).

©Chilla’s Art

Turn around, cross the road and go straight into a side street, and you’ll see a 100 yen coin.

©Chilla’s Art

Go back, turn right, and at the end of the street, go left to find the girl’s memories.

©Chilla’s Art

From where Onusa was, walk along the outer wall, past one street, and take the side street on the left to find 100 yen (marked by a yellow wall).

©Chilla’s Art

The girl’s memories are in the corridor by the police box near there (for some reason, the image shows a bug that causes the bar to break its limit. The cause is unknown).

©Chilla’s Art

Follow the outer wall all the way from where the Onusa was, and turn left when you reach the corner. Continue forward, past the two forks to the left, and take the narrow side street on the left for a 100-yen coin (marked by a red wall and a reddish object at the entrance to the side street).

Once you have collected four hundred yen, you can use it near the bus. Note that you need to have a 100 yen coin in your hand in your inventory or mouse scroll to use it.

Moving to home

I made a super simple map so you can refer to it (especially the part where you go through the fence to the railroad crossing (踏切), because it just goes all the way to the right). I may have had to take another left hand side path to get to the door behind the lock.

Place the Onusa on a table nearby.

Evil spirits will start appearing after you pass point A. The garbage bag can be overcome by jumping, so keep running and escaping, being careful not to hit the wall while dashing, then proceed to take the key (鍵) and open the door (扉), referring to the map. After that, proceed to the railroad crossing (踏切).

When you proceed to the level crossing, an evil spirit will appear. After running away for a while, you will hear the sound of a train passing, and then come back to the crossing to proceed to the next scene. By the way, if the circuit breaker is up, you can pass through even if you are in a panic.

There are fragments of the girl’s memories along the way.

Going to my room.

There is a pay phone in front of you on the left.

©Chilla’s Art

A mysterious message next to it.

©Chilla’s Art

Note: It seems that I could not proceed from here due to a bug in the Japanese version (I want my effort back). The updated version looks like this I knew I was right about the 41st building.

©Chilla’s Art

I am good friends with the girl in Building 35. She waves at me from the window every morning. But she lives on the second floor, so I can’t see her face. I live in an apartment right across the street from the one she lives in. I asked her if she could wave down from the fourth floor so that I could see her better since I couldn’t see her face.

©Chilla’s Art

On the left side of building 41, examine the room on the fourth floor. You will be in your room.

©Chilla’s Art

Proceed to the living room through the door on the far right.

Note: Probably not limited to the living room, but the event will start over time.

©Chilla’s Art

After that, the intercom will ring and you can proceed to the front door for the ending.
